Situated 45 miles from Belfast, and 15 miles from the border with the Republic of Ireland, Dungannon is a vibrant market town in the heart of Co Tyrone. The town is of great historical and cultural significance, and was once the home to the O’Neill Clan from the 14th Century, though nothing remains of the their stronghold that once sat at the top of Market Square.
With a growing economy, the town becoming a vibrant shopping centre again, and is close to the world famous Tyrone Crystal Factory, and the Linen Green shopping precinct, which has, amongst others, a Paul Costelloe outlet.
The town boasts a tremendous sporting history, with both local rugby and soccer teams currently playing at the highest level, and Dungannon is of course home to golfing superstar Darren Clarke. GAA is tremendously popular in the area, and local star Ger Cavlan was a member of the Tyrone All-Ireland winning team in 2003, and is now back on the panel for 2006.
